Charming Star Wars

As I was saying earlier, after going for the FXopen, I dropped by 1 Utama for the CHARM cheerleading competition

cheerleading is a serious sport...
not a time to clown around
at any time one could fall
so the girls (and guys) had to be on the lookout
to get ready...
and work together
to put on a show
with twists
and tumbles
to come out on top

it was not bad show this year but wasn't feeling it especially with the bad lighting.. didn't even bother to take the ladder down from my car...
decided to go check out this cosplay event in the Curve nearby (after the rain stopped)

Did you know?
in a galaxy far far awat, 30 years ago..
Empire strikes back was released to the theatrical delight of nerds everywhere?
yes we are talking about the sequel to Star Wars...
I thought it was odd to commemorate a sequel...
but before you think about mocking their geekiness consider that they might do this to you!
they were obviously serious about this

Seriously though I did enjoy their exhibits... the miniatures and toys were cute
notice that there seemed to be a lot of riding going on?
not sure what's up with that...

but they also included some interesting displays
and large sized games
with their huge game pieces
they even did some diorama's
all in all it was pretty ok... I'm impressed with the guys dedication to their geekiness and being true to themselves... which is more than I can say about their toys...
not sure what is up with the zergling..??

Catch my drift?

decided to drop by the FXOpen drift competition...
it was very challenging... finding the track! even with the map below & google maps.

YES it took me 40 minutes of driving round and round to figure out that I had to go into the highway to get to the track.
but when I finally got there...

There were already quite a few families out for the show
(ain't the kid sooo cute?)
there were even people standing on their vehicles at the side of the highway
trying to get a glimpse of wheel spins,
fast cars,
burning rubber
and drifting
it was a good year for some
and supremely so for singaporeans
while some stood out,
others had impressive drifts
all to finish the race
that attracts the babes
and the umbrella girls
which encouraged others to take to the track

Was happy with this set as most of the photos were taken with my MF Takumar 300mm f4...
and shot at 1/50s...
too bad I missed the tandem race as they were slow to start... was hungry as I had not had lunch yet so I went off and decided to drop by 1 Utama as I knew they were having the CHARM cheerleading competition

TBC...

Youth '10

I just don't get it...
I made it to the first Youth festival in 2008 and it was pretty good and different....
so I decided to take a walk in PWTC to see what was happening this year..
From the first step into the hall, I felt like I was under the watchful of the "eye of Sauron"...
every where I went I felt its "glare"
but under its watchful eye there are many activities...
like gaming

battle of the bands

lots of music

board games

even a club I've never heard of b4... dice stacking
pretty impressive when seen in action
Supersized jenga
that everyone was waiting for it to fall... but the guys weren't playing according to the rules
  rock climbing

petting zoo
stocked to keep Indy away

basketball
football
with cage matches
and even foosball

and if you were wondering why the audience aren't actually looking at the game...
look at the opponent (and I'm told she's not a bad player too)

I even attended a photography talk but didn't find it very helpful though her work is pretty impressive

Around the marketplace there are activities like henna

clothes and accesories sales

and dolls

and there were some pretty good offers.. tho not my kind
I also discovered how Mary Poppin's did it
I was truly stunned at this discovery
It made me want to dance in a box
or around a chair
All in all Youth '10 was a not too bad event... If you expect a jam packed non stop fast paced event..
then you'd be in for a disappointment...
If the event was a show, it wouldn't be a Die Hard but more like a Bill Nye...
It was a good wholesome event... even sections promoting good health by not smoking...
 and even though it rained
the show still went on...
even with gloomy skies
so props to these guys
and here's hoping it gets better next year

So that was my adventure in Youth '10.. missed Siti Nurhaliza in the opening ceremony...
but other than that don't think I'd be missing much if I don't attend the next two days...
if you have the chance tho I do recommend you drop by and see it for yourself...
you never know, you may find something that catches your fancy...

my photo of the day (totally unrelated to Youth '10 though)
cute deco rite?
