Sungai Golok: Places to Stay

*Extracted from the Sungai Golok post in 2010.*
As for places to stay, there are quite a few in Golok..
Didn't try out the cheaper motels (about 280 Baht a night) but instead decided to stick to a hotel.. and a central hotel would be the Marina Hotel  (600 baht a night)...

From the 9th floor,
I could have a good view of the town but no internet connection.
As you can see the flags on the left,
that's the cafe where they screen the world cup matches...
in two languages...
and you cannot see it
but there's actually a disco located on the first floor
but it cannot be heard from the hotel room.

*updated 2013*
Marina Hotel now costs 800 baht a night
and currently under the process of upgrading
Wifi has improved a lot but still depends on the room location

 Marina Hotel
173 Charoenkit Road, Soi 3
TV: MANY CHANNELS (Malaysia & Thai)
air cond: WITH THERMOSTAT
fridge: YES
wifi: YES
Restaurant: YES
Cost: 800 Baht

another popular hotel would be Hotel Genting..
located near the train station as well as the border crossing,
popular with many Malaysians, especially the young Malays
 the view is pretty impressive
the rooms are not too bad,
but a little run down in my opinion

the hotel of course catered to Thai's and Malaysians....

Genting Hotel

250 Asia 18 Road
TV: MANY CHANNELS (Malaysia & Thai)
air cond: WITH THERMOSTAT
fridge: YES
wifi: NOT SO GOOD
Restaurant: YES
Cost: 650 Baht

One of the lesser known hotels is the Parkson Hotel
Even my friend working here hadn't heard of the place
0utside it looks like a pretty nice place...
Inside, it also look not too bad especially for the price...

 but upon close inspection,
it is in need of a little fixing

It is however quite a good choice for the price

Parkson Hotel

301 Chareonkhet Road, Soi 3
TV: MANY CHANNELS (Malaysia & Thai)
air cond:YES
fridge:NO
wifi: NO
Restaurant: YES
Cost: 550 Baht

The latest place I tried is Taksin Hotel 2...
important to note the 2 as apparently 1 is quite run down
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the controversial former leader
and is suppose to be run by chinese...
but I have my doubts
(chinese usually don't have 4th floor)
the rooms are clean, and tidy
Unusual that the shower is central heating...
but is good, not that strong though

Taksin Hotel No. 2

301 Chareonkhet Road, Soi 3
TV: MANY CHANNELS (Malaysia & Thai)
air cond:YES (no thermostat)
fridge:NO
wifi: VERY GOOD
Cost: 600 Baht
